Referring to your letter of the 11th.

instant, I am directed to state that standing instructions of the

Secretary of State for the Colonies preclude this Government

from giving their consent to the renewal of the lease of Rural

Building Lot No. 1 on the terms which you suggest.

2.

There is no objection to the granting of

new leases of the various portions into which the lot is now

divided in place of the existing lease, such new leases to

terminate at the date of the termination of the existing lease.
